The District Attorney:
• is assisted by Massachusetts State Police detectives who are assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
• works with the police departments within the jurisdiction and encourages cooperative relations among law enforcement agencies at all levels.
• protects public safety and legal rights of everyone arrested for committing a crime.
• decides which cases to prosecute, divert, or dismiss, and what crimes to charge.
• hires and supervises Assistant DAs who work in the courts.
