Visitors and residents of the Cape have much to look forward to as we usher in the summer of 2026. At the 18h Annual Quahog Day, the Cape’s beloved hard-shelled mollusk, “Doug the Quahog”, brought bright news with a forecast of 72 days of sunshine on tap.
The event was held at Shipwrecked Restaurant in Falmouth with stunning views of Vineyard Sound. NewsCenter 5 Anchor Doug Meehan, a Cape native and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School grad, hosted the festivities.
The other Doug – “Doug the Quahog” - arrived at Shipwrecked in royal fashion, escorted by a Falmouth PD motorcade and members of his “Quahog Security” team. During the “prognostication ceremony” he secretly whispered his weather forecast to Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Paul Niedzwiecki. The news of 72 days of sun was greeted with a roaring cheer from the crowd.
Celebrated every first day of summer since 2009, Quahog Day has become a rite of passage for Cape Codders. Each year, all eyes are on the Cape’s favorite forecasting mollusk, Doug the Quahog, as he shells out his much-anticipated prediction of how many beach days lie ahead. It’s a tradition that proves Doug is no ordinary quahog—he’s got real shell-ebrity status.
The 18th Annual Quahog Day is presented by Hy-Line Cruises, Sponsors are Scargo Café, Blue Economy Foundation, Kandy Korner, Palio Pizzeria, Side Door Bagels, Cape & Coast Bank and Hyannis Honda, along with Cape Cod Broadcasting and Cape Cod Textile.
So don’t be crabby—come early, stay late, and soak up a day that’s guaranteed to be clam-tastic!
