The 9th Annual Cape Cod Quahog Day is sure to be a breeze - thanks to this year's emcee, NBC Boston meteorologist Michael Page, who will host the festivities at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21st (the First Day of Summer) on the beach at the Blue Water Resort in South Yarmouth.

The annual tradition has become a rite of passage into summer for Cape Codders. Kicking off the summer season, the region's official Quahog—Doug—tells us how many days of beach weather we have to look forward to for the summer. During his "Prognostication Ceremony," Doug secretly whispers his prediction into the ear of his human sidekick, Captain Johnny Quahog of Quahog Republic.

Doug has a shell of a reputation on Cape Cod. During the event, he is escorted by his esteemed Quahog Security Detail, a team of black-suited men and women armed with clamming rakes.

Growing up on the South Shore of Massachusetts, Michael Page knew he wanted to be a meteorologist at a young age. He started observing and forecasting the weather in his hometown of Hingham while attending middle school, and operated his own weather website right through high school. He went on to study meteorology at The Pennsylvania State University, presenting forecasts on WPSU-TV throughout his time in college. After college Michael worked at FOX44 & ABC22 in Burlington, Vermont, forecasting for much of Northern New England. All along the way, Michael gained experience across all of New England’s microclimates.

As emcee, Page is eager to share Doug's sunny prediction for the 2017 summer season.

"Michael started young and has a lot of experience forecasting the weather throughout New England. I was particularly impressed by the time he spent in Vermont - helping him hone in on all aspects of the colder weather and the northern winds,” said Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross.  “After the rains of May, he assures me we are due for some spectacular weather!”

Northcross continued, “But we’re still going to ask our local weather expert, Doug, and hope he agrees. Otherwise, he risks a dunk in the chowder pot!"

Quahog Day, which is free to the public and includes plenty of laughs and fun photo opportunities, gets underway at 2 p.m. Make sure you bring a hearty appetite, as the Blue Water Resort (a Red Jacket Resort) will be serving up an assortment of complimentary seafood appetizers and non-alcoholic “Cape Cooler” punch. A wide selection of cool cocktails will also be available from the cash bar. Dancing shoes are optional; however, the Pans in Paradise will be entertaining on the deck with a tropical mix of island favorites, reggae and classic tunes. Limited edition Quahog Day t-shirts by Cape Cod Textile will be available for purchase.

Parking for the event will be at Blue Water Resort and at the South Middle Beach parking lot across the street.
