New year, new you! January isn’t just the best month to start fresh, it’s also a perfect time to seek out something new on Cape Cod. Here are your best bets for exploring this month—and keeping those resolutions.

Get organized.
Decluttering the closet seems like a lovely idea, almost as lovely as stuffing all the boots, ski poles, baskets of junk mail, broken gadgets, gift wrap, dusty candles, and plastic bags right back in there and shutting the door. Take heart and inspiration at the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod's annual Winter Art Exhibit at Cotuit Center for the Arts (January 10–February 22), where local artists’ interpretations of this year’s theme, “Dream Big,” will give you a moment to step back and focus on big aspirations and ideas.  Artwork will be inspired by the entire Animal Kingdom, across sea and sky and the seven continents, and will be displayed at a kid-friendly four-foot eye level (for those little ones who have yet to grasp the concept of “personal space”).

Reset, reflect and grow.
Recharge at Chatham Bars Inn’s Wellness Weekend on January 24-25, a restorative escape created to nourish your mind, body and spirit. Experienced instructors lead a well-rounded 2-day wellness experience that includes a curated mix of fitness classes, gentle flow, mindfulness and sound healing.

Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster also offers a winter calendar of guided multi-day wellness retreats led by celebrated practitioners, focusing on practices like yoga, meditation and intentional living. These retreats aim to give you space to transform, heal and learn in a serene Cape Cod setting.

Add on a spa experience at either Chatham Bars Inn or Ocean Edge for total rejuvenation.

Turn up the music.
Winter at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis comes alive with its Winter Concert Series, where intimate performances bring warmth to the quiet season. Set against a creative, gallery-filled backdrop, the series showcases talented musicians across genres in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere every Sunday from 4 to 5 pm. January performers include award-winning songwriter Digney Fignus, cellis Elizabeth Miya Jones and classic rockers The MERCY Band.  Your concert ticket includes same-day museum admission, so make an afternoon of it!

On Saturday, January 24, experience the magic of the Beatles live at the oceanfront Pelham House Resort in Dennis Port. A premier tribute band will perform the iconic songs that shaped a generation—from “She Loves You” to the iconic anthems of Abbey Road. This nostalgic evening promises great music, great memories and classic ’60s vibes. Guests can enjoy food and beverages from a limited Rooftop menu.

Eat Good Food.
Kicking off the new year with a cooking class is a great way to learn new skills, warm up indoors, and get inspired by seasonal flavors. It’s also a fun, hands-on experience that adds creativity and comfort to the quieter winter months. Check the calendars at these local spots for upcoming classes that delve into sweet and savory recipes: Highfield Hall in Falmouth, Uva Wine Bar in Mashpee Commons, KAM Appliances in Hyannis, and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth.

Travel more.
Americans are famous for ignoring their vacation time, either because it’s more stressful to miss work or because a single week seems mighty short when book-ended by all that bag-packing, airport-ing, line-waiting, hotel checking, trip-planning, and kid/spouse whining. Expand your horizons instead when Cape Symphony presents “Passport to Vienna” (January 24–25), a special concert where the orchestra is most definitely the diva. This musical journey takes you through the legenday soundscape of Vienna at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center in Hyannis.

Exercise.
First Day Hikes on Cape Cod are a popular New Year’s Day tradition that invite you to start the year outdoors, surrounded by nature. Organized by the Barnstable Land Trust, this day-long regional celebration offers free walks, talks, and hikes across Cape Cod. The hikes are typically easy to moderate, family-friendly, and led by knowledgeable guides who share insights about local wildlife, history, and winter landscapes. It’s a refreshing, energizing way to welcome the new year while enjoying Cape Cod’s quiet beauty in winter.

Get inspired.
A few things will happen at the Cape & Islands Orchid Society’s Annual Orchid Show (January 24–25) at the Emerald Resort in Hyannis. 1) You’ll hit your daily steps by perusing the marketplace and stunning displays that are as beautiful (yup, we said it) as being in the actual outdoors. 2) These orchids will inspire your love of nature, thus motivating you to get outdoors and exercise. 3) You’ll buy one to take home, become obsessed, and return next year for advice on how to solve its many, many problems. It will be worth the trouble. Back to step one, repeat forever.

Try something new.
If you’re a New Englander, you like routine—including the same dish at the same restaurant every time you head out. Shake things up by venturing somewhere new, whether it’s the eatery your summer visitors raved about or the neighborhood spot you never knew was right around the corner. January, when cabin fever is high and crowds are low, is the perfect time to explore some new restaurant options.
