Cape Air took flight in 1989 with its first route between Boston and Provincetown. Today, the commuter airline has a fleet of nearly 100 aircraft, including Cessna 402s, Britten Norman Islanders, and Tecnam P2012 Travellers, and has expanded its services to include routes in the Northeast, Montana, and the Caribbean.
With up to 400 flights per day carrying around 500,000 passengers per year, Cape Air, along with sister airline Nantucket Airlines is one of the largest commuter airlines in the US, flying to some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. With service from Boston to remote cities such as Saranac Lake, NY, Bar Harbor and Rockland, ME as well as others, along with interline agreements with major US airlines, Cape Air is able to offer its passengers fast and frequent connections and the ability to check their bags through to their final destination.
In addition to its dedication to passengers, Cape Air is equally committed to being a good steward to the communities it serves, sponsoring and donating to local organizations such Housing Assistance Corporation, WE CAN, Cape Cod Community College, and Angel Flight New England, to name just a few. The airline also recognizes the importance of sustainability and focuses on mitigating climate change and moving toward a lower carbon operation. Along with developing low carbon solutions for aviation, the company has turned its offices into a solar-powered headquarters located on Cape Cod, resulting in a net-zero electricity user on an annual basis.
Recognizing the importance of growing and cultivating new talent in the field of aviation technology, Cape Air has partnered with Cape Cod Community College’s Aviation Maintenance Technology Program by donating three aircraft to the program, thus allowing students unparalleled access to real-world experience in aviation maintenance as well as the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a hands-on environment, preparing them for successful careers in this industry.
Cape Air is proud to be an innovator in the airline industry and in 2022, its President Linda Markham was named CEO, making her the only female CEO of a major regional airline in the United States, until 2024. Today, she is one of only three female presidents of an airline in the nation. Passionate about the advancement of women in the industry, Linda currently serves as the Chairwoman for Women in Aviation International. She was the first woman to serve as Chair of the Board for the Regional Airline Association and currently serves on the Association's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. She also serves on Cape Cod Community College’s Educational Foundation.
In 2020, when the nonprofit organization, A Baby Center, which provides diapers, wipes, and other supplies to local families in need, had outgrown its storage facility, Cape Air didn’t hesitate to offer up space in its hangar. Those boxes of diapers continue to be stored there when the Center needs more space.
Cape Air’s mission is to delight its customers by delivering safe, reliable air service that ensures a memorable experience. It achieves this through a mantra of MOCHA HAGoTDI, which when translated, means Make Our Customers Happy And Have A Good Time Doing It. Passengers appreciate the personal attention they receive when flying Cape Air and employees enjoy providing it. We hope to be your wings to carry you to your next destination.
