The Cape Cod Bridges Program Update, Issued 3/11/2022
This program is a continuation of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's (MassDOT) Cape Cod Canal Study and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) Major Rehabilitation Evaluation Report (MRER). The Program will address the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges as well as multimodal improvements to the approach roadway networks. Design alternatives for the bridges and roadways network will be developed in conjunction with a robust public engagement process.
Upcoming Work
MassDOT will be conducting subsurface exploration work as part of data collection efforts for the Cape Cod Bridges Program. Subsurface explorations near the Bourne and Sagamore bridges will take place over an estimated eight (8) week period beginning the week of March 14, 2022. Work will include multiple geotechnical test borings that collect subsurface soil and rock samples. The physical properties of subsurface elements will help inform future design decisions and the alternatives development process for the Program.
