Cape Cod has a voter apathy problem. In Spring 2026, voter participation ranged from 2% in Bourne to 34% in Wellfleet.  Barnstable will have a Special Election in October for the Town Council: Precinct 9 and Precinct 13.  A low turnout for your town means that the minority in your town is making decisions for the majority. This impacts your local taxes – both property and school. Is that fair? Of course not.

First off – are you already a voter? If so, make it known, as folks do pay attention. If you aren’t – why not? I know life is chaotic at times; however, Massachusetts makes it easy by allowing you to mail in your ballot for early voting prior to the actual Election Day. Childcare an issue? Bring the kids with you – what a wonderful way to educate the next generation of voters.

Here’s a radical idea for all you business leaders: How about giving half your staff the morning of Election Day off to vote, and then giving the other half the afternoon off to vote? This clears up issues for folks who are worried about childcare or other responsibilities.

You can be an Election Hero and a cheerleader for building up that voter participation muscle – and flexing it often!
