American Red Cross Southeastern MA Chapter

  • Details

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

    October 2022 - December 2022
The American Red Cross is urgently recruiting volunteers for our Shelter Cape Cod campaign to ensure that this winter, Cape Codders are prepared to help Cape Codders weather the storms by training to serve as Shelter volunteers.

With the growing threat of more severe and frequent storms, more people rely on the Red Cross for a warm, safe and dry place to shelter during storms when the power goes out or homes are damaged.  The need for compassionate volunteers has never been greater.  The Red Cross and Barnstable County Emergency Management Agency invite you to become a Red Cross trained Shelter volunteer.  The goal is to recruit and train 216 volunteers, just like you, by December 1st.

Our Red Cross Sheltering Teams play a critical role when local disasters hit. Shelter volunteers support the day-to-day activities within a local shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers may be asked to commit to local shifts of 4-12 hours each while the shelter is open.

Please become a Shelter Worker on Cape Cod! If this is something you would be interested in, you can learn more at www.redcross.org/volunteertoday. If you have questions, reach out directly to sheltercapecod@redcross.org or call 1-800-564-1234.
