B3 master Matt Hutchinson is in the driver’s seat with Mike Flanagan on the alto saxophone, Steve Ahern on trumpet, & Bart Weisman on drums

Ray Manzarek from THE DOORS played a Vox Continental combo organ and a Hammond B3 in the early 70’s. The Doors were pioneers in bringing the jazz organ sound into the mainstream with Ray holding down the bass with his left hand and right foot on the organ bass pedals. Other great organists include Jimmy Smith, (The father of Jazz organ) Charles Earland (The Mighty Burner) and rock players like: Steve Winwood and Greg Allman. Back in the early days of organ the sound really took off by allowing club owners the ability to get the sound of 4 musicians for the price of 3. Nowadays, it’s rare to see this instrument in a small club outside a major city. We are proud that we are one of only a handful of clubs in the entire state of Massachusetts that has one.
