The Cahoon Museum of American Art resides in a beautifully restored 1775 Georgian Colonial that was once an overnight stop on the stagecoach line between Hyannis and Sandwich. Wide floorboards, stenciled walls and floors, fireplaces and antique furnishings give the cheerful galleries a homey intimacy. Paul Galschneider was born in 1957 in Czechoslovakia and raised in Dornbirn, Austria. In 1985 he moved to the United States, living in Boulder, Colorado, Short Hills, New Jersey, and finally settling on Nantucket in 1994. Galschneider's interest in art developed later in life. Needing a way to express himself, Galschneider embraced painting.
