After one of the snowiest winters on record for the state of Massachusetts, the Cape’s beloved hard-shelled mollusk named “Doug” has brought us sunny news for Summer 2015!
At the 7th Annual Quahog Day on June 22, 2015 at the Flying Bridge Restaurant overlooking Falmouth Harbor, Doug predicted a whopping 80 beach days on the horizon for the Cape. The quirky, annual event has become a rite of passage into summer for Cape Codders.
Doug, the Cape’s official quahog, has been the peninsula’s little weather soothsayer for the past seven years. In traditional style, Doug and his human sidekick, Johnny Quahog, made an impressive arrival - this year aboard a Patriot Party Boats vessel, which was escorted into the harbor by a Falmouth Harbormaster boat. Upon arrival at the dock, Doug and Johnny debarked onto a red carpet flanked by their Quahog Security Detail, a team of black-suited men armed with clamming rakes. They were also greeted by dozens of onlookers and 7News reporter Nicole Oliverio, who emceed the festivities.
In front of a hushed crowd, Doug whispered his Summer 2015 weather outlook into the ear of Johnny Quahog, widely known as the Secretary General of The Quahog Republic. Johnny is reportedly the only human able to translate the secret quahog bi-valve language.
