Cape Cod Quahog Day

Cape Cod Quahog Day

Doug the Quahog, Cape Cod's beloved hard-shelled mollusk, went on record at the 9th Annual Quahog Day as saying the first official day of Summer 2017 was only the beginning of beautiful things to come over the next three months!

At the Quahog Day ceremony at the oceanfront Blue Water Resort in South Yarmouth on June 21, 2017,  Doug predicted 77 days of beach weather – and to really up his game, he also predicted average summer temps of a beautiful 77 degrees! We were excited to welcome NBC Boston Meteorologist Michael Page as this year's emcee. Special thanks to Cape Cod Parasail & Jet Ski for escorting Doug to the Blue Water beach!

The Quahog Day tradition has become a rite of passage into summer for Cape Cod residents. Kicking off the summer season, Doug—as the region's official Quahog—tells us how many days of beach weather we have to look forward to during the season. During his "Prognostication Ceremony," Doug secretly whispers his prediction into the ear of his human sidekick, Johnny Quahog, aka The Secretary General of Quahog Republic.

Doug has a shell of a reputation on Cape Cod. During the event, he is escorted by a Quahog Security Detail, a team of black-suited men and women armed with clamming rakes. Read the stories of some of Doug's loyal Quahog Security Members.

Come witness history in the making! Join us on the First Day of Summer in 2018 when Doug is back again with his highly anticipated prediction! And be on Doug Watch all year long: Like Doug on Facebook, follow him on Twitter, find him on Instagram and watch his escapades on Vine.
